NEWS RELEASE, Norfolk, NE - 5/27/02
E-100 CAN BE USED
FOR MARKING PARKING LOTS
The Tru Mark Athletic Field Marker
Model E-100 was recently field tested with zone marking paint
to stripe parking lots. The E-100 did an impressive job as
a traffic line marker.
To use the E-100 to stripe parking
lots, the following steps should be taken to get the best
results:
| 1. |
Replace the front spray nozzle with
a sprayer plug (solid washer). |
| 2. |
Leave the control valve with the screen
in the rear spray nozzle and continue to use the 8004E
spray tip. |
| 3. |
Set the restriction plug the same
as with field marking operations. |
| 4. |
The dilution used for the field test
was16 oz. of water and 16 oz. of Floetrol (latex paint
conditioner) to 1 gallon of Zone Marking Paint. A brand
produced for True Value Hardware stores was used. It recommends
only 16 oz. of dilution per gallon and based on the test
results there doesn't seem to be a problem if the 16 oz.
of water is eliminated. This is supposed to be a very
good quality paint at $7.00 a gallon. There was no nozzle
plugging. |
| 5. |
An adjustment in nozzle height was
made to get the 4" line. |
| 6. |
The 3.3 GPM Shurflo pump was used.
For E-100 owners using the 1.4 GPM pumps it is suggested
an upgrade kit pump kit be purchased. |

Test Notes
The paint set within 1.5 hours even
though a fairly thick line was made on non-painted concrete.
Although the paint manufacturer specified
200 square feet (some say 300 square feet) coverage, much
less than 600 linear feet at 4" per gallon of paint was achieved.
Use of both the E-100 two nozzles
was tested but a nice even spray pattern couldn't be maintained,
even with restriction plug closed.
There is a little spray dribble after
releasing the handle bar control at the end of the line. To
ensure this dribble was part of the line, the E-100 was pulled
back over the existing painted line about 6 to 12" just as
the nozzle control handle was released.
The 8003E spray tip will be tested
in the future to verify operations while walking at a slower
pace and applying less paint, especially if painting over
an existing line.
Tru Mark engineers are currently looking
into E-100 modifications that will allow the spraying of curbs.
With this demonstrated capability,
the E-100 becomes a multi-function machine. It can be used
to mark athletic fields, spray herbicide, and stripe parking
lots.
